چکیده

The application of tribology in dentistry is a growing and rapidly expanding field. Intensive research has been conducted to develop an understanding of dental tribology for successful design and selection of artificial dental materials. In this paper, the anatomy and function of human teeth is presented in brief, three types of current artificial dental materials are summarized, and their advantages and disadvantages, as well as typical clinical applications, are compared based on the literature. Possible tribological damage of tooth structure, which is induced by complex interfacial motion, and friction-wear test methods are reported. According to results obtained by the authors and from the literature, the main progress in the area of dental tribology on both natural teeth and artificial dental materials is reviewed. Problems and challenges are discussed and future research directions for dental tribology are recommended. (Some figures in this article are in colour only in the electronic version)

Tribological applications of biomaterials: an overview

Tribological research is the study of lubrication, friction, and wear. Tribology of biomaterials is to study how the materials work and fail. This will help us to produce better biomaterials. Tribology plays a very important role in improving the design and making successful biomaterials for medical purposes. Joints of human body, such as hip, knee, jaw, dental parts etc., all need to consider ...

Bio-tribology and Its Applications in Medical Sciences - a Review

Tribology is the science of rubbing, friction and wear. When biological systems especially human joints such as knees, hips etc which continuously move relative to one another are studied, tribology becomes biotribology. To understand the wear performance of the implant and effects of synovial fluid principles of biotribology are required. In this paper few papers are reviewed related to applic...

Tribology and total hip arthroplasty implants.

Define tribology and discuss its effect on total hip arthroplasty (THA). Tribology is defined as the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion and includes the principles of friction, lubrication, and wear of implant materials. Tribology of the articulating materials in THA is the most important issue for long-term survival of the implants because the fixation of implants either with o...

Graded materials for resistance to contact deformation and damage.

The mechanical response of materials with spatial gradients in composition and structure is of considerable interest in disciplines as diverse as tribology, geology, optoelectronics, biomechanics, fracture mechanics, and nanotechnology. The damage and failure resistance of surfaces to normal and sliding contact or impact can be changed substantially through such gradients. This review assesses ...
